Description
Part of a black velvet frock coat with a blue and black fabric belt. The material has been partially eaten by insects, with blemishes along the entire coat and a small hole ~1 inch in diameter next to the right should seam. At the moment, half the dress (down the middle) is either missing or has been taken apart. According to contemporaries of Ney’s, her “most unusual” choice of garments, including a black “Prince Albert” coat such as this one, as well as white trousers and knee-high boots, caused quite a stir upon her arrival in Georgia. This object is part of the original 1909 collection, from when the Elisabet Ney Museum was first established.
